It was the “Sorrow of Toubokpi”.

Almost everybody in and around the region knows how the Namtou Khong becomes a name of a canal/khong. A canal was to dig for draining water of Poiroupat. The idea/project might be nice or not. But it would pass through the heart of Toubokpi where the place was already inhabited by villagers. So the villagers opposed the canal digging in their village. But then stubborn MLA Mr. L Amujao Singh did not consider the feeling and voice of the villagers. There was violent protest against the canal project. But then government used the state armed forces to suppress the movement so as to be able to dig the canal. State armed forces escorting workers of canal digging made possible to realize the canal. Since then it came to be known by “Namtou Khong” Namtou Khong means “Forced Dug Canal”
